3D Integrations

AUCOTEC offers a particularly integrated solution for the harness design process: the Platform Engineering Base (EB) with its object-oriented data model, which allows the definition of different views of the centrally stored data. Whether alpha-numerical data, 2D diagrams and layouts, or 3D model integration, EB effectively manages the data at all times and enables a highly efficient change process.

Flexible workflow

In cooperation with the 3D experts of leading tools such as CATIA V5 & V6, NX, Creo or Inventor, AUCOTEC has developed standardized couplings to Engineering Base. This facilitates the interaction of mechanical and electrical design and allows both sides to start the design process in parallel and to synchronize the respective information at any time. With automated, bi-directional data exchange between the systems, the planning process as well as the change process is considerably accelerated, and with its data consistency, the quality of documentation is also optimized.

Bidirectional data transmission between wiring designs in Aucotec EB and 3D models in Creo is made possible by Aucotec's interface with PTC Creo, which facilitates smooth collaboration between mechanical and electrical engineers. During the development phase, this keeps both teams in sync and guarantees precise cable routing within the mechanical framework. Through a simplified, powerful Creo integration, the gap between electrical and mechanical disciplines is bridged, reducing design conflicts and streamlining the creation of BOMs while improving efficiency.

Aucotec's Engineering Base (EB) integrates seamlessly with Siemens NX 3D CAD via the HIM Pro interface for efficient wire harness design. In this video we start with a vehicle topology layout, add connections, and export data to NX to update the 3D model in real-time. EB manages wiring definitions, visualizes wire paths, calculates bundle diameters, and transfers updates back to NX, ensuring the 3D model stays accurate throughout the design process.

Electrical System and Wiring Diagrams

A highly effective and cooperative platform for designing intricate wire systems, cutting down on design time, and eliminating mistakes is provided by Aucotec's wire Diagram Design. Multiple engineers can work simultaneously on the same project because to real-time collaboration and the software's centralized database, which guarantees data consistency between diagrams. Automatic error-checking, smooth interaction with 3D CAD, and industry standard support (IEC, ISO, etc.) are just a few of the features that guarantee correct, compliant, and mechanically and electrically optimized designs.

Because of its single source of truth data model, Engineering Base makes it possible for documentation to be automatically generated, including wiring lists and BOMs, which makes the process of moving from design to production easier. Its electrical simulation capabilities and change management tools support effective revision management and design validation. Aucotec speeds up time to market for complicated projects by streamlining the wiring design process using reusable design components and customizable templates, which also save development costs.

Powerful Change Management

Aucotec Engineering Base (EB) offers comprehensive change management capabilities designed to streamline electrical and harness design processes. Key features include:

  1. Centralized Data Model: All project data is stored in a unified database, ensuring instant reflection of changes across all diagrams and documents.

  2. Revision Control & Automated Updates: EB tracks every modification, enabling version control and automatic propagation of changes throughout all project elements, such as schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs.

  3. Visual Change Tracking (Bubble Drawings): EB highlights modifications with "bubble drawings" that visually mark changes in the design. These highlighted areas make it easy to spot updates without manual inspection. Customizable to focus on specific changes like wiring or component updates, these visual aids enhance design reviews.

  4. Change Documentation & Reports: EB generates detailed logs, showing who made what changes and when. These reports can be linked with bubble drawings, providing clear, comprehensive documentation for audits and project reviews.

  5. Impact Analysis: EB evaluates how changes affect the overall system, helping identify potential issues early on.

  6. Collaboration Tools: Multiple users can collaborate in real-time, with changes tracked to prevent conflicts and maintain consistency.

These features, including both visual change highlighting and automated change management, enhance collaboration, improve traceability, and reduce errors in iterative design processes.

PLM Integration

Bills of material can be created at any level throughout the entire project, in accordance with the design in EB, and can be transferred to the PLM system including PTC Windchill and TeamCenter

The PLM system automatically receives EB BOMs and documents as soon as the user initiates the transfer simply at the touch of a button.

The automated data transfer between Engineering Base and PLM ensures a secure comparison of the data available in both systems. Furthermore, there is a significant reduction in inconsistencies in the engineering data stored in the company's PLM, with the synchronization of both systems requiring minimal manual effort at the same time. The data created in EB is quickly and efficiently available in the entire company via the PLM system to all people who need access. In addition, the BOM comparison between the various engineering disciplines allows a system-based data exchange that follows the processes realized in PLM.

EB Cable Database Management

A centralized object-oriented database management system powers Aucotec's Engineering Base (EB), which houses and controls all design data, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and component data. Multiple users may collaborate in real-time thanks to this unified database, which also automatically synchronizes changes and guarantees data consistency between projects. By using integrated validation tools, EB improves data integrity during the design process by detecting wiring and configuration problems. Furthermore, the database facilitates efficient information flow and project management through the support of parametric components, custom data fields, and interaction with third-party systems such as ERP and PLM. With the ability to generate dynamic reports based on the most recent design data, tools like version control, document management, and detailed reporting further ensure that all project data is secure and correct.

Engineering Base Installation Structure

Advanced security and customization options like user role management and access control are also available in EB's database system, guaranteeing that only those with the proper authorization can alter particular data. For customized data extraction and integration, the system allows SQL queries and API access; automatic backup and recovery procedures prevent data loss. The platform is made to be flexible, allowing team members to access it simultaneously and keeping a transparent audit trail with version histories. Because of this, EB's database management is a crucial instrument for guaranteeing the precision, effectiveness, and security of intricate electrical design projects in sectors like machinery, aerospace, and automotive.
